About Our High Polyphenol California Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Our 2020 gold award winning high polyphenol Tuscan oils are made from green early harvest olives, which produce high polyphenol extra virgin olive oil (EVOO). In general, the Tuscan oils are more biting. All our oils have a floral or grassy aroma. They are light delicate oils, buttery with a mild bitterness, ending with a palatable peppery finish.
Our Tuscan olive varietals are: Frantoio, Leccino, Maurino, Pendolino, Taggiasca.
We are organic, but not certified. Our olives are hand harvested, unfiltered, first press, and cold pressed for maximum flavor. Polyphenols are not lost when milling for a shorter period of time and using early harvest olives. The California Olive Oil Council certification guarantees that our olive oil is extra virgin, the highest grade an olive oil can receive..
Bitter oils are more healthful. The polyphenols are present with the peppery finish. EVOO can have either low or high polyphenols. Most oils are very low and less bitter. San Miguel Olive Farm chooses to produce a high phenolic oil. Our goal is low free fatty acid (FFA): .04 -.08, and high phenol content. These two qualities extend the shelf life of the oil, providing you store it in a cool dark place.
Drizzle our nutritious, healthful Mediterranean diet EVOO after roasting, grilling and steaming. When cooking veggies with our oil, phenols from both foods attract each other and give you the very best healthful food. Foodies know about this mix. Perfect for dressings, pasta, pizza, dips, baked goods, fish, salads and fun foods. Such as ice cream and popcorn. Replacing butter with EVOO in a recipe is flavorful and very healthful. Pairing our high quality extra virgin olive oil with aged Balsamic from Modena Italy or high quality flavored vinegars is delightful.. We never flavor our olive oils.
FDA approves scientific evidence suggesting that daily consumption of about 1.5 tablespoons of oil containing high levels of oleic acid may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. As they replace fats and oils higher in saturated fat and total daily calories do not increase. A long time goal of San Miguel Olive Farm is to produce high quality EVOO with high oleic acid (antioxidants). Helpful information for the caring consumer is on our hang tag, and front and back labels.
Reasons to use high polyphenol olive oil: Blood pressure, diabetes, skin care, hair infusion, stretch marks, relief while nursing, and many more every day uses. MEET THE OWNERS
Richard & Myrna Meisler
HOW WE BEGAN
My wife, Myrna, and I have gone from working in music industry to dedicating the last quarter of our lives to growing olives in west San Miguel, CA. Our legacy will be leaving 1200 olive trees to the next generation.
In 2006, encouraged by a family member, we began the adventure of olive farming. Watching our trees produce small green olives for fine extra virgin olive oil is the most exciting and rewarding aspect of our new lives.
We have been farming with a passion for the past 10 years. Our first crop in 2011 surprised and delighted us with highest awards. We have continued winning awards in international, state, and local competitions. The fruits of our labor have led to 51+ amazing awards and allowed us to progress fundamentals that we believe in: high-quality product, consumer-friendly labeling and the education of customers about the health benefits of extra virgin olive oil.
ABOUT OUR GROVE
We farm 10 acres of Tuscan Olives for olive oil. One of the challenges is hoping for the perfect weather as seasons change. We try to do everything right, but nothing is perfect. Of course, we do have fun racing up and down the hills. Richard usually drives the Kubota and Myrna drives the 4×4 to check for gopher holes, water sprouts and suckers. It’s a full-time job.
OUR PERFECT DAY
Our perfect day is full of friends, including the professional pickers, and family while in the grove harvesting our olives. Essentially, it’s a day during harvest with a gathering of people all doing their best to get us to the mill on time.
Farming has been a daily learning experience for us. Seminars, organizations and other olive growers have shared their knowledge through the years. Farmers helping farmers. We are producing some of the worlds finest healthful EVOO.
